Twitter is getting a bookmarking feature

Twitter revealed Monday that it has a built a prototype for a new bookmarking feature that allows users to save tweets they like, find funny or simply just want to read later.

Axar.az reports that at the current time, users can save tweets by sending them to themselves via direct messaging, retweeting or 'liking' it.

Jesar Shah, an associate product manager at Twitter, said the saving feature will be an 'easier and more private' way to save tweets, and is likely to be a drop-down menu added to each individual tweet.

Users will then be able to access their 'bookmarked' tweets by clicking on their own profile photo, which will show a "Bookmarks" tab under the current choices of "Lists", "Moments", and privacy settings, Shah said in a video demonstration she posted on Twitter.

The feature will also keep things more discreet for users, as most people do not like a tweet for the sole purpose of 'liking' or showing their approval, but tend to like a tweet as to save it for later.

In addition, every liked tweet would pop up in other people's timelines.

Apps like Pocket, which offer you the option to save links to articles in tweets for offline reading later, had proved quite popular among the Twitter community to overcome this dilemma.

However, the company is still in the process of developing the feature, and is asking input from anyone interested in helping the platform on the issue. Suggestions can be submitted via the #SaveforLater hashtag.

The announcement comes shortly after Twitter's move to expand its character limit to 280 from 140. The longer tweet limit is still in the test phase.
