Azerbaijan offers assistance to Iran after earthquake

Azerbaijani authorities offered assistance to Iran after a strong earthquake which has claimed the lives of hundreds of lives, Iranian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Javad Jahangirzadeh told.

Axar.az reports citing APA that he said that Iran’s relevant agencies will be informed about the assistance proposed by Azerbaijan.

“Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev extended condolences to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and the people of Iran over the devastating earthquake. We express our gratitude on behalf of the Iranian state,” said the ambassador.

The diplomat went on to say that the earthquake death toll in western Iran has reached 214 people with more than 1,700 injured according to the latest information.

A 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck the Iranian-Iraq border last night, and the epicenter of tremors was 104 kilometers from the city of Kermanshah. The quake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers. Fourteen aftershocks were recorded after the powerful earthquake.
