World Health Day has been celebrated on April 7 every year since 1950. However, in 2021, the importance of health will increase. Having a modern, sustainable, high-quality health care system is a priority for every country.
Axar.az reports that President Ilham Aliyev voiced these views in a video address at the headquarters of the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland, on the initiative of the organization's Director General Tedros Adhanom Gebreyesus.
In his address, the President noted that significant changes are taking place in the healthcare system in Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan strengthens primary health care through the introduction of compulsory health insurance, modernizes emergency medical services, provides digitalization by launching an e-health platform and public health accounts in the country.
Noting that the second year of the COVID-19 pandemic continues to put great pressure on health care systems around the world, President Ilham Aliyev said Azerbaijan was one of the first countries to mobilize global efforts against the pandemic.
"On our initiative, the Turkish Council Summit was held in April 2020, the Non-Aligned Movement Summit in May 2020 and a special session of the UN General Assembly at the level of heads of state and government in December 2020. Committed to its international responsibility, Azerbaijan has provided $ 10 million in voluntary financial assistance to the World Health Organization. We have also provided direct humanitarian and financial assistance to more than 30 countries in the fight against coronavirus. ”
