The UK and Azerbaijan are defining new areas of cooperation, UK ambassador to Azerbaijan Irfan Siddiq told reporters in Azerbaijan’s Guba district on Thursday.

He said the UK is currently the biggest foreign investor in Azerbaijan. More than a half of the foreign investment belongs to the UK.

He noted that the first meeting held in London of the joint intergovernmental commission of the UK and Azerbaijan on economic cooperation was aimed at defining new areas of cooperation.

“As you know, our main cooperation is currently in the energy sphere. We can proudly say that during the last meeting we defined in which areas we are going to cooperate. We can say, for instance, the Baku port, education area, water systems, etc.” he said.

The diplomat added that negotiations are now underway to determine how we can start the work in this regard.
