The Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku will conclude today.
Axar.az informs the main Formula 1 race will start at 15:00.
In yesterday’s qualifying, Red Bull driver Max Verstappen secured pole position. Carlos Sainz of Williams took second place, and Liam Lawson of Racing Bulls finished third. Mercedes’ Andre Kimi Antonelli was fourth, with teammate George Russell in fifth.
The Formula 2 competition will also conclude today, with the main race starting at 11:00. In qualifying, Jack Crawford of DAMS Lucas Oil set the fastest time.
The Baku circuit features 20 turns over 51 laps, covering a total distance of 306.049 km. The first race in the capital took place in 2016 as the European Grand Prix, and the following eight editions have been held under the Azerbaijan Grand Prix name.
Past winners include Nico Rosberg (2016), Daniel Ricciardo (Australia), Lewis Hamilton (UK), Valtteri Bottas (Finland), Sergio Perez (Mexico), and Max Verstappen (Netherlands). Perez won again in 2023, while Oscar Piastri of McLaren took the 2024 victory. The race was not held in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, McLaren driver Oscar Piastri leads the drivers’ standings with 324 points. His teammate Lando Norris has 293 points, followed by Max Verstappen with 230 points.
In the Constructors’ Championship, McLaren leads with 617 points, followed by Ferrari with 280 and Mercedes with 260.
