The new head coach of the Azerbaijan national football team will be announced in the coming days.
Axar.az, citing Bizim media, reports that it will be clear next week whether Ayxan Abbasov will remain “at the helm” of the national team. Negotiations between the association and the 44-year-old specialist are ongoing.
According to the information, if no agreement is reached with Abbasov, the head coach position will be entrusted to a foreign specialist. Initial talks have already been held in this regard and a preliminary agreement has been reached. As a backup option, officials have contacted Robert Prosinečki, who previously coached the team, and the Croatian specialist is reportedly open to working in Azerbaijan again.
It should be noted that the 56-year-old Croatian managed the Azerbaijan national team from December 2014 to November 2017.
