Seattle World Cup match dedicated to LGBT

Before the draw for the 2026 World Cup, the Seattle Organizing Committee announced that the tournament match scheduled for June 26 would be dedicated to the LGBT.

Axar.az reports, that at the time of the announcement, it was not known which teams would play that day.

After the draw, it was revealed that the Iranian and Egyptian national teams would play in Seattle that day.

Homosexuality is banned in Egypt. In Iran, the highest penalty for homosexuality is the death penalty.

The match's advisory committee said that the event would go ahead as planned.

The BBC notes that the event is organized by a local committee and is not affiliated with FIFA.
