The World Karate Federation (WKF) has made a post about Rafael Agayev.
Axar.az reports that the post notes the successes achieved by the Azerbaijani karate fighter during his career.
Rafael Agayev is considered one of the greatest legends not only in Azerbaijan, but also in the history of world karate. It is no coincidence that he is nicknamed the "Diamond of Karate" all over the world. This name was given to him personally by the President of the World Karate Federation (WKF), Antonio Espinos. The reason is the perfection of his fighting technique and unparalleled speed on the tatami.
At the World Championships held in Tokyo in 2008, Rafael achieved the impossible. He went down in history as the first and only karate fighter to become a double world champion in the same championship, winning gold medals in both his weight category (70 kg) and the open weight category.
Rafael's career has also been full of serious injuries. Despite having undergone several serious knee surgeries, he returned to the tatami stronger each time. He proved that age is just a number by winning a silver medal at the Olympic Games for the first time at the age of 36.
It should be noted that Rafael Agayev has been a world champion 5 times and a European champion 11 times during his career.
