Ronaldo sparks $2.4B loss for Saudi football league

Al-Nassr striker Cristiano Ronaldo has caused the first major international broadcaster to suspend its partnership with the Saudi Arabian Football League.

Axar.az reports, citing Unikal, that the news was reported by “Speedline H.”

The published report states that the league suffered losses of approximately $2.4 billion due to the current situation with global media and commercial projects.

Media reports suggest that Ronaldo is unhappy with the management of the club by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF). According to these reports, Ronaldo believes the fund gives less attention and fewer resources to Al-Nassr compared to other clubs it controls, particularly Al-Hilal. In protest of this policy, the team captain refused to play in the match against Al-Riyadh on February 2. This has led to media speculation that Ronaldo might leave Al-Nassr.

The striker was also not included in the squad for Al-Nassr’s 21st-round match against Al-Ittihad in the Saudi Championship.
