Australian swimmer sets World Cup record in Baku

The first final session of the Silk Road Swimming World Cup has been held at the Baku Aquatics Palace.

Axar.az reports that the Azerbaijan Swimming Federation (ASF) said the opening day of the tournament, organized by the federation with the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, featured intense and exciting competition.

Finals were held in 12 categories. Azerbaijan’s representatives Abdurrakhman Rustamov, Anastasia Boborykina, Anastasia Gnusina, Mehri Abdurahmanli, Oktay Huseynov and Vlastilina Khasyanova competed in the finals. Among the Azerbaijani swimmers, Oktay Huseynov in the 400-meter freestyle and Anastasia Boborykina in the 200-meter breaststroke set new personal bests.

The highlight of the day came from Australian swimmer Cameron McEvoy. He clocked 20.22 seconds in the men’s 50-meter freestyle to set a new record in World Cup history.
