A few days ago, we reported that Elhan Mammadov, the former Secretary General of AFFA, has taken on a new position at FIFA. He has been appointed as the Director of Member Associations starting from November 1.

Axar.az reports that this news has created a significant buzz in the Russian media. Our colleagues have shared this information with great excitement.

The reason for this is that Elhan Mammadov is one of the few FIFA officials who supports Russia's return to football. In May 2022, at the conference of the Russian Football Union, Mammadov expressed hope for the country's quick return to the international arena, which has encouraged the Russians.

Another interesting point is that our Russian colleagues mistakenly confused Elhan Mammadov with the legendary judo playe of the same name.

It should be noted that in February 2022, FIFA and UEFA excluded all Russian national teams and clubs from tournaments organized under their auspices.

Additionally, Mammadov has been working as the Director of FIFA's European National Associations Department since April 2022.
