Kenyan athlete Ruth Chepngetich has won the Chicago Marathon and set a new world record.

Axar.az reports that the athlete completed the distance in 2 hours, 9 minutes, and 57 seconds.

The previous record belonged to Ethiopian runner Tigist Assefa (2 hours, 11 minutes, and 52 seconds), which she set at the 2023 Berlin Marathon.

In the Chicago Marathon, Ethiopian Sutume Kebede took second place (7 minutes and 36 seconds behind), while Kenyan Irene Cheptai came in third (+7:56).
