Diogo Jota, the 28-year-old Portuguese Liverpool footballer, tragically died early this morning in a traffic accident in Zamora province, Spain.

Axar.az informs, citing Marca, the crash happened at kilometer 65 on the A-52 highway, near the Sanabria region. Jota was traveling with his 26-year-old brother André—also a professional footballer playing for Penafiel—when their vehicle veered off the road and caught fire.

Jota had just married his fiancée, Rute Cardoso, 10 days earlier on June 22. The couple had three children.

The Portuguese international joined Liverpool in 2020 from Wolverhampton in a €44.7 million transfer. Over 182 matches with the Reds, he scored 65 goals and provided 26 assists, helping the club win three major trophies: the Premier League (2024–25), the FA Cup (2021–22), and the League Cup (2021–22).

Before his time at Liverpool, Jota had a brief spell with Atlético Madrid, who signed him from Paços Ferreira in 2016 for €7 million. Although he scored in a friendly against Crotone, he never made an official appearance for Atlético. That summer, he was loaned to Porto, then to Wolverhampton, before making a permanent move there in 2018 for €14 million.
