Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has spoken out against forcing women to wear the hijab.

Axar.az reports that he made the remarks in an interview with NBC News host Tom Llamas.

“People have the right to choose. We did not manage our internal problems properly,” Pezeshkian said in response to a question about Mahsa Amini, whose death three years ago after being detained by Iran’s morality police sparked nationwide protests.

In this context, Pezeshkian also added that every human life is valuable:

“Yet in Lebanon, Gaza, Palestine, Yemen, and Syria, hundreds of people die every day and no one blinks. Why? Are they not human?”
