Thousands protest Portugal’s new labor laws in Lisbon

Thousands of people in Lisbon, Portugal, protested against the new labor laws proposed by Prime Minister Luís Montenegro’s government.

Axar.az informs that Portuguese media reported on the demonstration.

The protest, organized by CGTP, the country’s largest trade union, was held under the slogan “Everyone to Lisbon.” Participants included both public and private sector workers.

The protests were sparked by amendments to the Labor Code approved by the government in September 2025.

Demonstrators argue that the new rules violate workers’ rights and increase exploitation. The changes are intended to make it easier to dismiss employees, relax outsourcing restrictions, and create “individual time banks,” which would allow workers to work up to two extra hours per day.
