Tokayev warns Caspian shallowing could become irreversible

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has warned that the Caspian Sea’s shallowing risks becoming irreversible and could trigger a series of serious consequences.

Axar.az reports “Given the current pace of shallowing, this dangerous process may become irreversible, inevitably causing a chain reaction of ecological, socio-economic, and even political impacts. Kazakhstan has proposed developing a special interstate program to prevent the destruction of the ecosystem and further shallowing of the Caspian,” he said at the International Forum on Peace and Trust in Ashgabat.
