President Donald Trump said on Saturday that he is not yet prepared to make a deal to end the war with Iran, despite Tehran’s willingness to negotiate.
Axar.az reports, in an NBC interview, Trump stated that “Iran wants to make a deal, and I don’t want to make it because the terms aren’t good enough yet,” he said, adding that any terms will have to be “very solid.”
He also added that he is coordinating with other nations on a plan to secure the Strait of Hormuz amid rising global oil prices, and he downplayed Americans’ concerns over climbing gas prices since the U.S. and Israel launched their joint military operation two weeks ago.
“We’re going to be sweeping the strait very strongly, and we believe we’ll be joined by other countries who are somewhat impeded, and in some cases impeded from getting the oil,” he added.
The president also raised doubts about whether Iran’s new supreme leader is “even alive.”
“I don’t know if he’s even alive. So far, nobody’s been able to show him"..."I’m hearing he’s not alive, and if he is, he should do something very smart for his country, and that’s surrender,” Trump added, but called the news of his death “a rumor.”
Trump expressed surprise that Iran targeted other Middle Eastern countries in retaliation for the U.S.-Israeli operation and said that U.S. strikes on Kharg Island on Saturday “totally decimated” most of the island.
“We’ve totally decimated it,” the president added. “Except, as you know, I didn’t do anything having to do with the energy lines, because having to rebuild that would take years.
