Coup attempt foiled in Madagascar, 13 charged

An attempted coup and assassination plot targeting the president of Madagascar has been thwarted, according to the country’s prosecutor, Narindra Rakotoniaina.

Axar.az reports, citing L'express de Madagascar, 13 individuals have been charged in connection with the plot.

Among them is Colonel Patrick Rakotomamonjy, a former presidential official, and several senior officers, including a general.

According to the report 11 suspects are currently in custody, while two remain at large. Investigators uncovered a large sum of money, numerous weapons, and ammunition during searches of their homes.

Prosecutors say the plot involved long-planned coordination among the suspects, including frequent meetings and communications via SMS and WhatsApp, with the funds used to finance their criminal activities.
