Former Turkish Parliament Speaker Cindoruk dies at 93

Former Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkiye (TBMM), Husamettin Cindoruk, has passed away.

Axar.az reports that the politician died at the age of 93 in the hospital where he had been receiving treatment.

It is noted that Husamettin Cindoruk, whose full name is Ahmet Husamettin Cindoruk, was born in 1933 in Izmir. He graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Law in 1954 and began working as a lawyer in 1955.

He started his political career in the youth branches of the Democrat Party and later became one of the founders of the Freedom Party in 1958. In 1985, he was elected chairman of the True Path Party (DYP).

He served as Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly between November 16, 1991, and October 1, 1995. Following the death of President Turgut Ozal, he temporarily assumed the presidency from April 17 to May 16, 1993.

Later, he left the True Path Party and founded the Democratic Turkiye Party. In 2009, he was elected chairman of the Democratic Party, a position he held until January 2011.

Cindoruk passed away on April 11, 2026, after a long stay in intensive care at Koc University Hospital in Istanbul, where he had been treated since late 2025.
