Commercial traffic continues in Hormuz amid blockade

Passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz does not necessarily constitute a violation of the US blockade, as the United States has closed Iranian ports rather than the international waterway itself.

Axar.az reports, citing CNN analysis by Brad Lendon, US Central Command has stated that the blockade targets Iranian ports but does not extend to the Strait of Hormuz itself.

As a result, commercial traffic unrelated to Iran may continue to pass through the strait, while enforcement actions can still occur against Iran-linked vessels in international waters.

It is also noted that the blockade covers Iranian ports both inside and outside the Strait of Hormuz, and US forces may intercept vessels suspected of carrying Iran-linked cargo even far from the region.

Meanwhile, Iranian media claims that two Iranian tankers have already passed through the Strait of Hormuz since the measures came into effect.
