US, Nigeria kill top ISIS commander in Africa, Trump says

President Donald Trump said late Friday that U.S. and Nigerian forces carried out a joint operation in which Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, described as ISIS’s second-in-command globally, was killed.

Axar.az reports, citing Fox News, that Donald Trump stated on Truth Social that the mission was “flawlessly executed” and “meticulously planned".

"Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, second in command of ISIS globally, thought he could hide in Africa, but little did he know we had sources who kept us informed on what he was doing. He will no longer terrorize the people of Africa, or help plan operations to target Americans," Trump stated.

The operation involved cooperation between U.S. forces and the Armed Forces of Nigeria, with Trump thanking the Nigerian government for its role in the mission.

Abu-Bilal al-Minuki was identified by Trump as ISIS’s global second-in-command and said to be operating in Africa prior to the strike.

The announcement comes amid continued U.S. counterterrorism activity in the region coordinated through the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), which has recently reported strikes and captures targeting ISIS remnants in Syria.
