Russia's Altai to impose temporary fuel sales limits

Russia's Altai Republic will introduce temporary restrictions on retail sales of gasoline and diesel fuel from July 1 through September 1.

Axar.az reports that, according to a statement by regional head Andrey Turchak on his Telegram channel, the measures are intended to prevent artificial panic buying, despite what he described as adequate fuel reserves in the republic.

Under the restrictions, gas stations in Gorno-Altaysk, Mayminsky, and Chemalsky districts will be allowed to sell up to 30 liters of gasoline and 50 liters of diesel per customer per day. In the rest of the republic, the limits will be 50 liters of gasoline and 100 liters of diesel. Sales into fuel cans will remain capped at 10 liters.

The restrictions will not apply to emergency services, including ambulances, firefighters, police, essential utility providers, social institutions, and agricultural organizations.

Turchak urged residents not to stockpile fuel, adding that the Russian government is taking measures at the federal level to stabilize fuel supplies.
