US President Donald Trump said Monday that British police should not have released on bail five men arrested near a US-used airbase over a suspected bomb plot.

Axar.az informs that five British men in their 20s who were arrested near RAF Fairford on Sunday on suspicion of explosives offences and preparing an act of terrorism have been released on bail.

“I’m surprised that they released them, I wouldn’t have done that,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office, while adding that British authorities had worked “very closely” with the United States.

“We know everything about them. We would not have released them.”

Police are investigating a possible Iranian link as a key line of inquiry.

RAF Fairford is a military airfield owned by the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) but operated day to day by the US Air Force (USAF) under a UK-US agreement. The airbase has previously been used by the US to launch attacks against Iran.
