US sanctions Iran’s auto and rail sectors

The U.S. Department of the Treasury has imposed new sanctions targeting Iran’s automotive, railway, manufacturing and steel sectors as part of Operation Economic Outcast.

Axar.az reports, citing the U.S. Treasury, that the measures target major Iranian automakers Iran Khodro and SAIPA, as well as several other companies in the automotive sector and foreign suppliers based in Indonesia, the UAE, Turkiye and Hong Kong.

Three major Iranian railway companies — the Islamic Republic of Iran Railway Company, Raja Passenger Trains Company and Sherkat-E Rah Ahan-E Khamle-O-Naghle — were also sanctioned.

The Treasury also designated Iran-based Heavy Equipment Production Company (HEPCO) and its Shanghai-based subsidiary, along with several companies and individuals linked to Iran’s steel industry.

The U.S. said the sanctions are aimed at disrupting revenue sources and networks supporting Iran’s economy and helping it evade sanctions.
