US Embassy urges Americans to leave Russia immediately

The U.S. Embassy in Russia has warned U.S. citizens about reports of suspected pneumonic plague in the Irkutsk region, where one person has died and quarantine measures have been introduced.

Axar.az reports that the embassy said it was closely monitoring the situation, including reports of hospital closures and quarantine measures in Irkutsk.

The embassy also warned that the U.S. government has limited ability to assist American citizens in Russia, particularly outside Moscow. It added that U.S. government personnel may face additional restrictions on personal and official travel to certain regions due to health and security concerns.

The embassy recalled that the U.S. State Department’s Level 4 (Do Not Travel) advisory for Russia remains in effect, urging U.S. citizens currently in the country to leave immediately.

U.S. citizens planning to travel to Russia are also strongly advised against doing so due to the risk of wrongful detention and security concerns.
