Attacks on two Saudi airports leave 3 dead, 36 injured

Two international airports in Saudi Arabia were targeted in separate attacks on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the General Authority of Civil Aviation of Saudi Arabia.

Axar.az reports, citing the Saudi Civil Aviation, that Abha International Airport and King Khalid International Airport were targeted on Oct. 6 and 7, respectively, with emergency teams and relevant authorities responding immediately.

The attack on Abha airport killed two female residents of Moroccan and Algerian nationality and injured 28 Saudi citizens and residents, including nationals of Bangladesh and the Philippines. Their injuries ranged from minor to serious.

The attack on King Khalid International Airport killed a Sudanese resident and injured eight people, including five Saudi citizens, two Egyptian residents and one Pakistani resident.

All those injured were taken to hospital for medical treatment. The attacks also caused material damage to the airport facilities.

The authority said it is assessing the damage and coordinating with security agencies to ensure the safety of passengers and staff and maintain the security of Saudi Arabia’s civil aviation system.
