Putin must put pressure on Yerevan - Pakistani analyst

Armenia has always played delaying tactics and has shown a disingenuous attitude to true peace in the region. It's unfortunate that they fail to realize the humanitarian need of the hour here in respect to the location of these mines.

Axar.az reports that the statement came from the director of Ziyauddin University of Pakistan, analyst Seyid Muaz Shah while commenting on the issue of Armenians not handing over the minefield maps or providing the maps with an accuracy of 25%.

Azerbaijan cannot hope to expect honesty from Armenia in this case scenario and must be prepared to utilize other tools to more effectively sweep away these mines in the region- there is not even a guarantee the information Armenia provides will be genuine.

According to him, Azerbaijan should not expect honesty from Armenia in this scenario:

''The only way I see it practically coming to be is entrusting the Russians to sweep the mined area with Armenian help. That way any liability will be borne by the Russians and Armenia will think twice before causing damage to them or their own relationship with them''.

According to the analyst, Putin and Russia have to plan an important role to ensure Karabakh is cleared of mines and compliant with the UN and Geneva treaties.
