The Russian authorities are considering the possibility of lowering the level of diplomatic relations with the United States.

Axar.az reports that Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said this in an interview with "Izvestia".

"Is a solution possible now that involves a downgrading of diplomatic relations? I can say that this is a subject under review and is being investigated. Such decisions are made at the highest level. Opponents must know that step by step they are approaching the point of no return. Despite the upheavals of the most acute phase of relations with the West, Russia has never taken the initiative to reduce diplomatic relations," he said.

According to Ryabkov, the work of embassies, maintaining the necessary communication channels, is a "heavy function" and should not be neglected:

"We have had cases of ambassadors being recalled for consultations and this is also a common practice. We do not rule out any future options. Everything will depend on who and how our opponents will behave."
