Such difficulties await Pezeshkian - Iraqi analysts

Iran's foreign policy is under the authority of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and intelligence units. Pezeshkian's efforts to mitigate these issues will be limited, if not insufficient.

Axar.az reports that Iraqi analysts said this while commenting on Iran's regional policy during Pezeshkian's presidency.

Iraqi political analyst Ahmed Yaseri noted that Pezeshkian can start negotiations with the West again, for which he has appointed former foreign minister Javad Zarif as an adviser.

"Pezeshkian will appear before us as an important element in changing the Iranian policy. However, in general terms, in Iran's foreign policy, not the president, but the Revolutionary Guards, including Khamenei, are responsible for security and military issues. Pezeshkian's political moves can only affect Iran's decisions in the region. Iran will get closer to the West with Pezeshkian. This will soften the situation for Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Yemen, which have suffered from Tehran's distance from the West. Because as the Iran-US relations become tense, the conflicts in Iraq increase as well."

Iraqi political commentator Mujashi Tamimi said that the reformist president will have to deal with the economic crisis at home and risks abroad.

"Pezeshkian will fight the problem of unemployment in the country. It is expected that Iran will experience difficulties in its foreign policy during this period. I don't think there will be any serious changes in this direction, because Tehran's policy regarding Iraq is not in the hands of Pezeshkian, but in the hands of Khamenei. Iran will not give up "resistance forces" in Iraq and the region, and tensions will continue. If Trump is re-elected as the US president, Iran-US relations will be strained in a new way, either directly or through Iran's proxy forces in the region. It is clear that Iran wants to demonstrate a flexible position in its politics by electing a reformer as president. He may want to reduce his problem from Iran-region issue to Iran-Israel issue. However, we must not forget that Tehran is still considered a "rogue state" by both Democrats and Republicans in the United States.
