Iran confirms death sentence for Turkish citizen

The Iranian Supreme Court has confirmed the death sentence for Hatem Ozdemir, a Turkish citizen currently held in Urmia prison.

Axar.az reports that this information was provided by human rights organizations.

Hatem Ozdemir was arrested in July 2019 in the city of Maku and was accused of "armed rebellion against the Islamic establishment." He was sentenced to death on March 15, 2022.

While it is not specified which group he is affiliated with, it is suspected that he may be a member of the PKK or PEJAK armed organizations.
