Georgians protested on Saturday as the poll commission rubber-stamped the ruling party’s victory in a controversial parliamentary vote marked by claims of Russian meddling and Western calls to investigate fraud allegations.

Axar.az reports that citing France Press the electoral commission's final results on Saturday awarded Georgian Dream 89 seats in the 150-member parliament, a victory the opposition has rejected as "illegitimate," vowing not to take their seats.

The commission’s session faced a brief disruption when an opposition representative threw black paint at Giorgi Kalandarishvili, the commission chair, just before the announcement of the election results.

President Salome Zurabishvili has also described the vote as illegitimate, saying she would not issue a decree to convene the new parliament.
