Parliamentary Meeting starts with in the framework of COP29

Today, the Parliamentary Meeting began in Baku as part of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), jointly organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Axar.az reports that the event is attended by 92 delegations from 66 countries and international organizations, with up to 330 participants, including 167 parliament members led by 12 speakers and vice-speakers.

The sessions of the Parliamentary Meeting will feature discussions on topics such as "The real impacts of climate change," "The role of parliaments in scaling up ambitious measures for mitigation and implementing nationally determined contributions to turn climate commitments into reality," "Developing the global architecture of the climate financing," "Enhancing resilience to climate change and promoting a comprehensive and fair approach in this field," "Leveraging technology to combat climate change and ensure equitable access," "Efforts to address health and food security in changing climatic conditions," "Managing human displacement and climate change," and other issues. A final document will be adopted.

A series of bilateral meetings are also planned within the framework of the event.
