The usual suspects abstained from voting on a seemingly uncontroversial United Nations resolution that denounced violence against women and girls on Thursday — Iran, Russia, North Korea.

Axar.az reports that, citing Associated Press, Argentina’s unexpected “no” vote, on a resolution drafted by France and the Netherlands, sparked widespread criticism across the political spectrum on Friday.

It marked yet another dramatic foreign policy shift under President Javier Milei, Argentina's most right-wing leader in its 41 years of democracy.

Argentina's vote at the UN on Thursday echoed a similar controversy last month when it became the only member of the Group of 20 nations to reject a statement endorsing language on gender equality.
