TikTok will appear before the US Supreme Court on Friday in a last-ditch attempt to overturn a ban that could force it to separate from its Chinese owner, ByteDance, by January 19.
Axar.az reports that the government argues the app poses a national security threat, claiming China could use TikTok for spying and political manipulation. However, TikTok contends the ban infringes on the free speech rights of its 170 million US users.
Lower courts have sided with the government, but the case's complexity grew when President-elect Donald Trump intervened, urging a delay in potential negotiations. Analysts suggest the Court's decision could be close, as it balances national security concerns against constitutional rights.
The law, passed with bipartisan support last year, would effectively ban TikTok by pressuring tech giants like Apple and Google to remove it from app stores.
TikTok has denied Chinese government influence, arguing the law is based on inaccurate and hypothetical information. The case also involves significant political dynamics, including Trump's changing stance on the app.
A Supreme Court ruling is expected soon, and its outcome could have lasting implications for TikTok's future in the US.
