President Donald Trump has signed an executive order mandating the declassification of records related to the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.
Axar.az reports that the order directs the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) to submit a plan within 15 days for the full release of all JFK-related documents and, within 45 days, for records pertaining to the RFK and MLK assassinations. Trump emphasized that withholding these records is "long overdue" and against public interest, stating that Americans and the victims' families deserve transparency.
“This is a big one. A lot of people have been waiting for decades. Everything will be revealed,” Trump said during the Oval Office signing.
While the release of JFK assassination files aligns with the President John F. Kennedy Assassination Records Collection Act of 1992, Trump expanded the scope to include RFK and MLK records, citing the public's right to know the truth.
The move fulfills a campaign promise Trump made in June 2024, when he vowed to declassify JFK files early in his new term. “It’s been 60 years for the American people to know the TRUTH!” Trump had declared at the time.
