EU extends Iran human rights sanctions until April 2027

The European Union has extended its sanctions against Iran for another year, in response to ongoing human rights violations.

Axar.az reports, citing the Council of the European Union, the restrictive measures, now in place until 13 April 2027, include travel bans and asset freezes on targeted individuals, a ban on exports of equipment that could be used for internal repression, and restrictions on monitoring telecommunications.

EU citizens and companies are also prohibited from providing funds to the listed individuals and entities.

The sanctions list currently includes 262 individuals and 53 entities.

The EU first introduced the regime in 2011 and has renewed it annually, increasing restrictions since 2022 amid growing concerns about violence, arbitrary detention, and intimidation of demonstrators.

The Council emphasized that the EU continues to support the Iranian people’s aspirations for a future in which universal human rights and fundamental freedoms are fully respected.
