If Russia had to choose between the Islamic Republic and supporting Israel, it would definitely choose Israel.
Axar.az reports that this was stated by Iran’s former ambassador to Russia, Nematollah Izadi.
In an interview with the “Jamaran” website, he recalled that during the Iran-Israel conflict, Russia did not support Iran. Referring to Iran’s support for Russia in the Ukraine war, Izadi said that the military cooperation between Tehran and Moscow has been mostly one-sided, with Iran providing unilateral assistance to Russia.
“In my opinion, our military agreements with Russia and the assistance we provided during the Ukraine war are one-sided. At critical moments, Russia has not reciprocated, because it does not accept the condition of mutual support — that Russia would support Iran in return,” he said.
Nematollah Izadi also stated that Russia does not trust Iran:
“In the Russians’ view, Iran is a complex and unpredictable country, and naturally, during times of crisis, the Russians do not commit themselves to a country that could jeopardize their interests.”
