Maduro wears clothes of history-themed Turkish TV series

Venezuela's President Nicolás Maduro started a Twitter frenzy among Turkish users after photos of him holding the props and wearing the costumes of Turkish historical- period drama "Diriliş: Ertuğrul" [Resurrection: Ertuğrul] surfaced online.

In the photo, shared by the series' screenwriter and producer Mehmet Bozdağ on Twitter on Friday, Maduro is seen wearing a ring and a hat while holding the flag of the Kayı tribe.

Since its premiere on state-run Turkish TV channel TRT 1 in 2014, "Diriliş: Ertuğrul" has captured the attention of television audiences across Turkey and the region, and has been exported to 60 countries.

The 13th-century drama offers an idea about the state of empires and principalities in Anatolia and the surrounding regions, including the Byzantine Empire, the Crusaders and more.

The show is based on the history of the Oghuz Turks in the 13th century. It centers around the life of Ertuğrul, the father of Osman I, the leader of Ottoman Turks and later, the founder and namesake of the dynasty that established and ruled the Ottoman Empire.
