WHO calls situation with delta plus strain alarming

The situation with the delta plus coronavirus variant is alarming, as the virus is gaining speed, the official WHO representative in the Russian Federation Melita Vujnovic said.

Axar.az reports that the delta strain affects many cells. A person infected with this strain can infect more people and much faster, Vujnovic said, calling the current situation alarming.

"We don't see the peak yet, and the virus is accelerating its speed. We need to react now," she noted.

Vaccination alone is not enough to fight the delta strain. Therefore, mask-wearing must be mandatory. We must now make an effort in a short time. Otherwise, a lockdown will follow, she added.

The WHO representative stressed the importance of vaccination since it lowers the possibility of virus transmission and the likelihood of suffering a severe COVID.
