The African Center for Disease Control and Prevention has declared a health emergency on the continent due to the outbreak of mpox (the new name for monkeypox).

Axar.az reports that Jan Kaseniya, the director general of the Center, said this.

"Mpox has now crossed borders and is affecting thousands of people on our continent," he said.

Kasenia noted that even though the state of emergency has been declared, there will be no interruption in the movement of people and goods.

It should be noted that before this, the WHO issued a call regarding the said virus.
