The Kashmir region has long been a hotbed of tensions on the Indian-Pakistani border due to conflicting sovereignty claims. reports citing Sputnik.

Terrorists targeted a military post on KP Road close to the General Bus Stand in Anantnag of South Kashmir, injuring at least five security personnel and killing three soldiers. Two of the injured are in a critical state.

A video of the site where the Wednesday attack took place in South Kashmir has emerged online.

According to police, the attack was carried out by two masked terrorists who approached KP road on a bike and opened fire. One of the terrorists was neutralized.

Al Umar Mujahideen military group reportedly claimed responsibility for the Wednesday attack.

The incident comes after Indian intelligence services were informed late last month that 16 newly emerged terrorist training camps in the Pakistan-controlled part of Kashmir were preparing to advance into Indian territory. India, in turn, stated that it was prepared to respond to this threat.

The Kashmir region has long been a hotbed of tensions on the Indian-Pakistani border because of conflicting sovereignty claims. The situation escalated in February after the Indian Air Force carried out airstrikes against what it claimed to be a camp belonging to the Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist group, based in the Pakistani side of Kashmir, in retaliation to an attack on an Indian paramilitary convoy earlier that month.
