Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov expressed hope that the ceasefire reached between Iran and the US will turn into a lasting peace.
Axar.az informs in an interview with APА, the minister said the recent tensions in the region have seriously worried Azerbaijan, and official Baku has been making efforts to stop military clashes from the very first day:
"This recent situation has been very seriously worrying us. From the very first day, we have been trying to stop military clashes as soon as possible and open political and diplomatic paths."
Jeyhun Bayramov noted that progress has been achieved in this process as a result of the responsible approach of a number of regional countries, and the role of Turkiye and Pakistan in particular has been noteworthy:
"I would like to specially note the role of brotherly Turkiye and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. They managed to host the negotiations, which paved the way for a ceasefire. We are very hopeful that the ceasefire will turn into a lasting peace."
At the same time, the minister evaluated the gratitude of Iranian officials to Azerbaijan as an example of solidarity between the two countries.
He said that the gratitude of Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh is an indicator of friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Iran.
“In the first hours of the incident, the President of Azerbaijan was the first among world leaders to send an official message of condolences. The head of state personally went to the Iranian embassy in Baku and expressed his condolences,” the minister emphasized.
Jeyhun Bayramov added that Azerbaijan has offered humanitarian assistance to Iran from the very first day and considers this to be completely natural:
“This approach is consistent with our history, traditions and foreign policy when there is any problem in a neighboring and friendly country.”
