Armenian armed forces must leave the occupied Azerbaijani territories, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov told a press conference following the trilateral meeting of Azerbaijani, Russian and Iranian foreign ministers in Baku on Thursday.

Serious work is underway on the proposals made by Russian FM Lavrov in mid-2015 regarding the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Mammadyarov said.

“Someone calls it a frozen conflict. However, it is a conflict that requires a speedy settlement, because the conflict is causing human losses. A peaceful solution is very important. The continuation of the conflict is unacceptable,” Mammadyarov said.

“First of all, Armenian troops must withdraw from the occupied Azerbaijani territories, and then the issues of monitoring and security can be considered,” the FM stressed.

Mammadyarov said during today’s meeting with Iranian counterpart they discussed the latest developments on the contact line of Azerbaijani and Armenian troops. “The Iranian side has also made some attempts to reach a ceasefire,” he noted.
