Scientists have found a cave on the moon, and they hope that someday astronauts will live there.

Axar.az reports that Italian scientists have released a statement about this.

The cave was discovered by Lorenzo Bruzzone and Leonard Carrer, scientists from the University of Trento in Italy, while examining images of the famous lunar region called the "Sea of Tranquility".

Scientists have noted that this cave could theoretically be an ideal place to create a habitable base on Earth's moon.

The depth of the cave, which Italian scientists found using radar, is at least 100 meters. However, researchers believe this is just one of hundreds of similar caves hidden in the Moon's yet-to-be-explored underworld.

Scientists believe that the cave was formed millions, even billions of years ago, when hot lava moved on the Moon.

"We have very good photos of the surface. We can see where the Apollo missions landed, but we know nothing about what lies beneath the surface. There are great opportunities for discovery here," said Francesco Sauro from the European Space Agency.
