President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan in Abu Dhabi on February 2.

Axar.az reports that during the conversation, it was emphasized that the bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and the UAE are based on a strategic partnership, and satisfaction was expressed with the development of cooperation between the two countries in all areas, including political, economic, energy, as well as renewable energy, cultural, humanitarian, and other areas. The importance of the mutual visits and meetings of both presidents to Azerbaijan and the UAE in the expansion of our relations was noted.

The importance of the joint operational-tactical exercise "Peace Shield - 2026" held between the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan and the United Arab Emirates in Abu Dhabi was touched upon during the meeting, and confidence was expressed that these exercises would contribute to the development of operational military coordination between the Armed Forces of the two countries, and the importance of its continuation in the future was emphasized.

The heads of state exchanged views on the prospects of relations and future contacts.

Then, with the participation of the presidents of Azerbaijan and the UAE, a document on the sale and purchase agreement on the sale of a certain part of the non-controlling stake owned by the Ministry of Economy in the Southern Gas Corridor CJSC to XRG Company, an investment arm of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, was signed.

It should be noted that a letter of intent on a defense cooperation agreement was also signed between the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Defense of the United Arab Emirates within the framework of the visit.

The presidents of Azerbaijan and the UAE expressed their confidence that these documents will give impetus to the further development of relations between the two countries.

During the conversation, the issues of establishing sisterly relations between Baku and Abu Dhabi were also mentioned.
