EU says it will accept no increase in US tariffs

The European Commission has called for clarity from the United States following a recent Supreme Court ruling on the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), stressing that the current situation threatens fair and predictable transatlantic trade.

Axar.az reports the Commission emphasized that EU companies and exporters must receive legal certainty and competitive treatment, with no unexpected tariff increases, in line with the EU–U.S. Joint Statement of August 2025, according to the European Commission.

Highlighting the economic disruption caused by unpredictable tariffs, the EU reaffirmed ongoing dialogue with U.S. officials, including Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, while reiterating its commitment to preserving a stable, rules-based trading environment and expanding global “zero tariff” agreements.

The statement reads:

"A deal is a deal". As the United States' largest trading partner, the EU expects the U.S. to honour its commitments set out in the Joint Statement - just as the EU stands by its commitments."
