Today is the 102nd anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Turkiye.

After the Ottoman Empire was defeated in World War I, its territory was occupied. At that time, the struggle of the movement led by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk ended with the victory of the national forces in 1923.
Since 1923, a parliamentary form of government has existed in Turkiye. The country has been under a presidential system of government since 2018.
The first President of Turkiye was Mustafa Kemal Atatürk (1923-1938).
The current President of Turkiye is Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The Justice and Development Party, of which he is the chairman, won the parliamentary elections for the first time in 2002. It has been the ruling party in Turkiye since that time.
Today, Turkiye is a member of many international organizations, including NATO, and is one of the major political actors in the world. Ankara also plays an important role in strengthening integration among the Turkic states. This is particularly evident in its activities within the Organization of Turkic States (OTS).
