Ukraine has proposed a new scheme for the transit of Russian gas to Europe, with Azerbaijan as the exporter and Slovakia as the buyer.

Axar.az informs that this was reported by 'RBK Ukraine' citing sources.

According to the discussed scheme, gas will be stored in Ukraine's underground storage facilities and then supplied to Slovakia or other countries. Such supplies will be classified not as transit but as re-export of gas. This means that the owner of the gas can first inject it into storage and then make decisions based on market conditions.

For example, if Azerbaijan uses this scheme, it could sell gas on the exchange or through contracts depending on the needs of EU countries and market conditions.

It is also noted that Ukraine has set security conditions for continuing gas transit through its territory. Such supplies will only be possible if Azerbaijan or Slovakia agrees to prevent attacks on gas transit infrastructure by Russia."
