Hallgrímsson: Ronaldo argued with me before red card

Ireland national team head coach Heimir Hallgrímsson has commented on Portugal’s striker and captain Cristiano Ronaldo receiving a red card in their 2026 World Cup qualifier.

Axar.az reports that the coach said the 40-year-old forward argued with him during the incident:

“He argued with me because he thought I was putting pressure on the referee. It was Ronaldo’s actions on the pitch that led to the red card. I had nothing to do with it.”

It should be noted that after Ronaldo was sent off in the 59th minute, he argued with the Ireland head coach.
