Draw for 2026 World Cup play-offs takes place today

The draw for the European play-off matches of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, to be hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada, will be held today.

Axar.az reports that the ceremony will take place at 16:00 Baku time at FIFA’s headquarters.

Twelve teams that finished second in their qualifying groups, along with four teams advancing from the Nations League — Romania, Sweden, Northern Ireland and North Macedonia — will compete in the play-offs.

In total, 16 teams will be placed into four pots. Sides in Pot 1 will face teams from Pot 4, while Pot 2 teams will be matched against those in Pot 3.

Pot 1: Turkiye, Italy, Ukraine, Denmark
Pot 2: Wales, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia
Pot 3: Albania, Ireland, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina
Pot 4: Romania, Sweden, Northern Ireland, North Macedonia

The single-leg semi-finals will be played on March 26, 2026, with the finals set for March 31. Winners of the final ties will book their place at the World Cup.
